English summary: Myths about the birth and childhood state of the gods and heroes are present in the literary and artistic traditions of ancient Greece. Michaela Stark treats the intensely discussed theme of childhood in current scholarship from a new perspective and as a result, she achieves new insights concerning ancient ideals, the understanding of the gods, and their meaning for Greek society. The author delivers a thorough examination of ancient texts as well as a systematic analysis of the preserved imagery from the perspectives of iconography, philology, and cultural history and throws a spotlight on the discourse of "god" and "human," "child," and "adult" as well as "man" and "woman." Prevailing scholarly opinions are critically scrutinized, refuted in part through the evidence of iconographic analysis and the development of a new basis of interpretation.
