Las Vegas is the best know city in the state. It is a play ground of casino's and fun for everyone, but the casino's provide a large number of jobs to the locals. They hire anywhere from as little as fifty employees in a small casino to as many as several hundreds to keep their doors open. Jobs range from hotel workers for the front desk, room service, security, and food planning as well as service in the restaurants. The casino portion hires cashiers, cash counters, bookkeeping, and every other kind of clerical worker. It takes a full force of personnel to run a casino hotel and the jobs can be demanding and fulfilling for the right person.In the high desert of Nevada is the major town of Reno. It is billed as the biggest little city in the world and it lives up to its name. Reno is host to the famous Hot August Nights classic car show each year. Thousands of people converge on the city and stay in every hotel and motel room for miles and miles around the area just to get a look at these true classic beauties. Another event is hosted in Reno is one of the greatest biker rallies this side of the Dakota's.
But there is so much more to this land of plenty and emptiness. Once you look beyond the two largest cities you will see that this state is covered in ranches and businesses of all kinds. Cattle ranches can cover desert range for hundreds of acres providing quiet beauty and food for the world. Since the water table is higher in the northern part of the state, wells are affordable and offer ranchers water for their own homes and families as well as the cattle they raise.There are medical facilities and some of the greatest universities in the county near each of the larger towns. But for the tourist and local side trips it is fun to visit Virginia City just outside of Reno where the west was once wild and silver was king. Mining is still a main industry in the area. From Reno you can drive about 30 minutes and begin your mountain assent to Lake Tahoe. It sit on the border of Nevada and California with one of the coldest deep water lakes in the west.
