Temecula, California is located in Riverside County. The city was incorporated on December 1, 1989. The population of the city was 100, 097 according to the 2010 census. This population made the city the lowest populated American city over 100,000. Temecula makes the southwestern anchor of the Inland Empire region. There was a rapid growth to the Temecula Valley in the 1990s when many families moved to the city from San Diego and Orange County, they were drawn to the community by the affordable housing prices and the popular wine county. The weather in the city can be best described as a Mediterranean climate. The hottest month of the year is August, and the coldest month of the year was December. The rainy months of the year are the months between November to March; February is the wettest month of the year. The driest month is June.
Tourism in Temecula has a little something for every visitor to enjoy. For the wine buffs there is the Temecula Valley wine country. Considering Temecula Valley has been recognized as a full-fledged wine country. With more than 3,500 acres or producing vineyards, the tasting rooms can be found in Old Town Temecula. There is an annual Temecula Valley Balloon & Wine Festival that is held at the nearby Lake Skinner. At the festival offers residents and visitors live entertainment, hot air balloon rides, and of course wine tasting where the local wineries are represented. Other festivals held in the city of Temecula are the Temecula Blue Grass Festival, Valley International Film and Music Festival, Valley International Jazz Festival, Children's Matsuri, Temecula Street Painting Festival, Dutch American Heritage Day, Taste of the World, Temecula Rod Run which is held in Old Town Temecula.
Golfers can take advantage of one of the nine local golf courses that can be found in the city. If you're interested in history and visiting historical places, Old Town Temecula is the place to go. The area is a collection of historic 1890s buildings, complete with antique stores, hotels, specialty food stores, boutiques and antique dealers. You can pick up a little bit of history from one of the gift and collectible stores. The Temecula Museum can also be found in Old Town, it features exhibits about the local band of Native Americans and the local natural history development. City Hall is also located in Old Town. The Pechanga Resort and Casino is also found in Temecula. The Promenade Mall opened in 1999 in Temecula. The shopping malls anchor stores are J.C. Penney, Macy's and Sears. A row of shops called "The Shops on Promenade Drive", stores that can be found on the "Drive" are White House Black Market, Apple Inc., P.F. Chang's., The Walking Company, Pottery Barn and Williams-Sonoma, all of which opened on March 26, 2009.
