About Fresno

Fresno is a city in California that was founded in 1872, and is home to just over half a million people. Although Fresno is actually part of the much larger Fresno Clovis metro area, it is still a major place of importance within the state. Being just around 200 miles from the states capital of Sacramento, this city is the fifth largest in California. An interesting fact about Fresno is that its name actually comes from the Spanish word for the ash tree. The city flag even sports an ash tree on it.

Fresno is a good sized city with a total area of almost 105 square miles; mostly land and a bit of water. Though Fresno is in California, this city does have its share of extremely warm and rather cold days. The climate of Fresno is that of a semi-arid one. The summers in Fresno are normally hot and dry; the winters are usually mild and wet. There will never be a winter full of snow or an extremely rainy summer in this place. This is one of the great reasons why people choose to live in and travel to Fresno. Downtown Fresno is one of the perfect places for people to go that have an interest in local architecture. While in downtown Fresno you will have a chance to see places such as the Fresno County Courthouse, Chinatown, and the Fulton Mall. The Vagabond Hotel was an area of great importance to the city until its destruction in 2004. Although the Vagabond may no longer be in Fresno, there are many other places to visit. A look in the Fresno, California business directory will direct people to the Sunnyside, which is a beautiful neighborhood in the city that has been around since the 1950s. William Bell made a marvelous contribution to this lovely neighborhood by creating the Sunnyside Country Club, a perfect place for people who like to relax and play golf.

Another place of great importance that people can find in the Fresno, California yellow pages is the Old Fig Garden. This place first began its popularity as the Forkner Geffen Fig Garden Estates. This area is one of the most well-known neighborhoods and places in the entire city of Fresno. The Old Fig Garden only takes up a space or around 6 square miles but is nonetheless important to the city and state. An annual event known as the Christmas Tree Lane can also be seen in this neighborhood.
