About Fontana

Fontana is a city located in San Bernardino County, California. The area was settled in 1913, and later incorporated on June 25, 1952. The city remained rural until Henry J. Kaiser built a very large steel mill in the area. The city is now a declared a regional hub of the trucking industry.

Fontana is home to the largest libraries in the county. It is also home to a newly renovated historic theater, a park, and the Auto Club Speedway (located on the site of the Kaiser Steel Mill).

According to the 2000 United States Census, there were 128,929 people, 34,014 households, and 29,013 families living in the city. The population density was 3,569 people per square mile. The median income for a household was $45,782, and the median family income was $46,957. The per capita income was $14,208.

The top major employers contributing to the economy are Kaiser Permanente, Fontana United School District, City of Fontana, Target, Manheim Auctions, Better Beverages, American Security Products and more.
